A man lived in the country and he fed and grew a goose
He tried to take good care of it and let the bird run loose
And then one day he saw a gleam from down below its leg
He lifted up the goose to find it laid a golden egg
The man was very happy and he went to tell his wife
That they'd be no longer poor, they would have a richer life
They sold the egg for lots of cash, and then enjoyed their wealth
And bought a lot of things they thought would guarantee good health
So every day they fed the goose a golden egg was laid
And all the debts the couple had, were promptly fully paid
These folks could not believe their luck, their fortune was assured
If they could just care for the goose their woes would be all cured
Alas the pair just could not wait each day to get the gold
They wanted all that they could get before they grew real old
The goose appeared to them to be so plump and full and nice
They guessed that it was stuffed with eggs, each worth a handsome price
And so one day when they could not contain their want and greed
They thought that they would kill the goose to get the gold they need
They caught the bird and hastily did slice it with a knife
But when the goose was opened there was nothing worth the strife
You see, the goose was empty, so the days of wealth were done
The golden eggs would be no more, the golden goose was gone
So keep in mind when life is sweet and gold to you produces
If you are greedy you will kill the bounteous golden gooses.
