The Ant and the Grasshopper

A grasshopper hopping in a field one day
Saw an hard working ant and to him did say
“Whacha doin' there bro', doncha know it's time for fun
'Cause the sun's up high and the day has just begun

The ant looked up from a mighty heavy load
Which upon his back he had lifted and he towed
Then fastened a stern look upon his face
And put the lazy grasshopper in his place

“You really should be spending more time in doing work
And not from your necessary tasks do shirk
There's some freezing weather coming and there's food to store
If you want to eat when old man winter's at your door

Well the grasshopper laughed and began to sing
That the world owed him a living and he'd have his fling
While the ant went back to working at his labor really hard
And he piled food up that he had gathered in his yard

Then the summer went by, warmer days were gone
But the grasshopper laziness went on and on
While the worker ant's storehouses all were filled
So by winter weather storminess he'd not be killed.

Then the big storms came with the rain and the snow
And the grasshopper got very cold you know
He was very very hungry and he looked for food
But there wasn't any there that was any good

Then the hop bug down on the ground saw a hole
Where the ant went in to get out of the cold
He went crawlin' to the edge where the hole went down
And hollered for the ant down beneath the ground

“Say you got some food, and is it warm down there?
Do you think you have a tiny bit to spare?
'Cause I'm starved up her and the big wind blows
And I think my body is just about froze”

But the busy little ant didn't have no food
To give to the poor starved grasshopper dude
The summertime was past and winter had begun
When the hopper shoulda' worked 'steada havin' fun.
