The Town Mouse & Country Mouse

A town mouse to the country went
His cousin was a country gent
Their life was simple on the farm
There seemed to be no chance of harm

At dinner time the two mice fed
On beans and bacon, cheese and bread
The town mouse sought a sweetened treat
“Is this all that you have to eat?”

“Why yes,” the country mouse did say
“I don't know any other way.
Each meal before us is well spread
With beans and bacon, cheese and bread”

The town mouse tried to be real kind
But wanted other food to find
“You know” he said unto his friend
“There's food in town to apprehend”

You must come there to see me soon
The food you'll find will make you swoon
You'll eat sweets and treats instead
Of beans and bacon, cheese and bread.”

And so the two went into town
To see what food they could snarf down
Out of the town mouse hole they came
And viewed the kitchen hall of fame

Leftover food there was no drought
Upon the table strewn about
“Come on, let's eat,” the town mouse said
“Not beans and bacon, cheese and bread”

They ate almost till they were done
But then a loud noise made them run
“Go faster now,” the town mouse cried
We've got to go and quickly hide!”

“What for?” the country mouse enquired
For he was getting quickly tired
“The dogs will bite you 'till you're dead
No beans and bacon, cheese and bread!”

And so the two mice ran and hid
Into a hole they safely slid
The country mouse began to squeak
“You know this city life is shiek

There's food a plenty all around
But danger too is also found
I think this lifestyle I will shed
For beans and bacon, cheese and bread

“I'm not sure this life's for me
I'd rather live where I am free
Your life is great, but I instead
Like beans and bacon, cheese and bread.”
