The Belly and the Members

The hands and feet and eyes and mouth
Complained aloud one day
Of how the belly lounged about
Indulging all the way
“We do not think it's right,” they said
'Cause we do all the work
For him to take in all the food
And from the labor shirk”

And so they did protest and whine
About the belly's life
It seemed to them he lived carefree
Devoid of any strife
Then all of them declared a strike
And said they'd do no more
Because the belly, seemed to them
Did never have a chore

They did no work to see the food
Or walk to where it was
Or pick it fresh or chew it up
They thought they had a cause
Deny the belly food to eat
Was what they thought they'd do
'Cause he deserved to be denied
And know what they'd been through

It wasn't long before their strength
Became extremely weak
And then the days it also seemed
Became so cold and bleak
They met again to talk about
Just why they were so spent
And feet and hands and eyes and mouth
Decided to repent

One can't exist without all else
For all rely on one
And feet and hands and eyes and mouth
Would surely be undone
Without the belly's unsung job
To digest all the food
What he did was important too
To serve the common good.
